Working in partnership with Gravity Road, we helped with the strategy behind the move of The Design Museum from Shad Thames to their new home in the former Commonwealth Institute in Kensington, which meant they would be closed for four months.
The strategic platform was to highlight the key difference between The Design Museum and other London Museums.
If the British Museum closes, for instance, you can’t see the Rosetta Stone. If the Science Museum closes, you can’t see the Apollo 10 capsule. These objects are one-offs, rariefied things that are special in themselves. Meanwhile, when The Design Museum, the exhibits you can see in there are drawn from our everyday lives; pens, cutlery, traffic lights, cars, chairs. The world around us is on loan from The Design Museum… but only if you know how to see.
